The Role of Facts in Persuasion

If you are trying to get someone to do something for you or purchase a product you are using a technique called persuasion, but you have to be careful when you are using this method because you do not want to lie about any details and make sure that you do not leave any major or important ones out, especially if you are doing this for the purpose of business.

Here is why.

If you are trying to get someone to invest in you, your product or your company, you do not want to fill your speech with even the slightest of lies the reason is, point blank, they will eventually find out and when they do, they will not only stop investing in your product but they could also ruin who you are and what you are trying to sell.

It is important to remember the wise words of Warren Buffet: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.”

Although this saying applies to various aspects of life, it certainly rings true in the world of business – your reputation is everything, so be absolutely sure not to compromise it by stretching the truth to generate sales in the short-term.

When you are running your own company your values and who you are, come first and are most important, when you are trying to persuade people into something whether it is business or in your personal life, it is important not to lie about anything, because the basis of all persuasion comes from trust, if you break that trust everything you are working towards will start to crumble.

If you feel like whatever you are offering is not good enough with the truth alone, the solution is not to lie, instead try to find ways to make the product more appealing to someone else using nothing but facts, when you go about things in the right way without possibly hurting someone else while doing it, you are going to go further than you ever would have any other direction.

When you have a good product or a good reason for why people should listen to things you say, then the most powerful thing in the world begins to happen, the person who you will eventually have persuaded to try your product out will start to talk to other people because they have experienced your product and they have learned the ins and outs, finding out that everything you said or promised is true and did in fact happen just like you said it would. And by them going out and telling other people that they should also try out your product, you will generate so much business naturally which is so valuable.

This is one of the most important parts of using persuasion, is building trust, once you are able to build trust, you can build anything because this is your reputation, and that is everything, whether you are a business owner or just in every day personal life situations, truth and trust are everything that is standing between you and what you are working so hard towards reaching.
